Segregated district order closes Nashville soda stands
A 1911 Nashville city order designates a segregated district north by Jefferson, south by Peabody, east by Cumberland River and west by McNairy to curb liquor sales. Police are instructed to arrest sellers of intoxicants outside the district after December 15, and to crack down on soft drink vendors selling liquors on Sundays and on minors or drunkards. Disorderly conduct near soft drink stands is also to be suppressed. Mayor Howe urges strict enforcement.
