A Metcalfe burglary loot led to a powder fire that exploded a house at Shade Lee's plantation. Two burglars Shade Lee and Gus Alexander were injured. Alexander died and Lee is under bailiff care. The blast wounded Shade Lee's wife and destroyed the building with firearms present.
A 17 year old Coats and 22 year old Sandy Johnson eloped riding a spotted steer to Welch. Unable to marry due to age, spectators funded the marriage trip with cash from bystanders. They boarded a train at Welch hopeful for Bristol where marriage was possible.
Three men named John Wilson John Graham and James King were arrested by Censington police after a chase around Calumet Station in connection with the United States Express robbery at Kendalville. Lieutenant Bassett led the arrest and identified the suspects for the express company officials.
Misa Jennie Mehl, daughter of Eugene T. Mehl of St. Paul, yielded to parental pressure and consented to annul her marriage to James Robinson. She will go to New York to enter a convent for a time, while Robinson agreed to separate. The Mehl couple left for New York. Jennie to follow with her brother tomorrow. Colored community leaders reportedly pressured Robinson with offers of money to part ways.
Mrs Baskin of Shamokin Pennsylvania learns her son abducted at age six from Andover Ohio nearly ten years ago is en route to Shamokin. The boy was taken by two men, later revealed as his uncles, with the motive tied to disputed inheritance. He will soon reunite with his widowed mother.
In Cincinnati Williams burg Clermont County Milo Wilson a laborer shot and killed 11 year old Ioe Warman after her parents objected to his attentions. Wilson killed himself in Jeptha Lytle barn nearby leaving the revolver used in the crime. The body was later found.
