A group of eight men in a private railcar visited Bristol and nearby coal fields, meeting with President Geo. N. Carter and surveying Carter holdings. The trip, details, and party identities were kept secret, fueling talk of railroad consolidation and tie ups with the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton interests and the Seaboard scheme to connect coal routes.
