Break in Appalachian forest fund forces congressional action
President Taft announced a funding oversight in the Appalachian forest reserve bill. An $11,900,000 appropriation was approved but only $1,000,000 available in 1910 and $2,000,000 by June 3, 1911. The treasury comptroller notes the first mission failed and surveys may not finish in time to buy lands by January 1. Reappropriation by Congress is likely needed.
