City officials warn delinquents after the first Tuesday in Tone to settle taxes for 1885. Delinquents will face 10 percent costs, added listings, and execution by the Recorder. Early settlement may earn a 2 percent discount. later, distress warrants and personal property seizure follow.
Washington County Sunday School Convention is called to meet April 13 and 14 in Johnson City Baptist Church. Delegates are elected from each school, pastors and superintendents attend ex officio, with programs and entertainment planned. Committees organize reception, music, and canvassing churches for delegates and homes.

At Newport Kentucky on March 20 Scott Jackson and Alonzo Walling were hanged for the murder of Pearl Bryan. Crowds watched as the double execution occurred, Jackson and Walling maintaining innocence until the end while condemning their accusers. The scene drew thousands and reports noted both men died in agony, with Walling dying slightly before Jackson.
