Facts Concerning the U B Church by Rev W Paul

Rev W E Paul writes that United Brethren in Christ arose from German and Mennonite roots, not a schism. Otterbein and Boehm united their ministries after meeting at a Pennsylvanian camp meeting, forming a denomination that grew rapidly with a 1789 Baltimore conference and a 1800 Maryland general conference. The church now numbers about 300,000 communicants, 2,700 preachers, 35,000 Sunday school officers and teachers, 325,000 pupils, thirteen colleges, a Dayton publishing house worth around 1 million, and active bishops and missionary societies. The governance is American, bishops elected quadrennially, and local churches choose their pastors with stationing ratified by conference. Baptism mode and the Lord’s Supper are practiced with individual understanding, and core doctrines emphasize conviction, repentance, justification, regeneration, sanctification, consecration, and resurrection.
