Ben Fain, about 65, was struck by passenger train No. 4 near the Roan street crossing as he walked from MacClain’s stable to breakfast. He lived about two hours after the accident and never regained consciousness. Known as Uncle Ben, he had worked for Sam Anderson at Jonesboro for 80 years and was a respected teamster in the area.
In Elizabethton Tennessee on June 26 funeral services for Dr J H Alexander were conducted at 1 pm by Rev C A Duncan D D of Knoxville. A large crowd gathered on the front lawn under the trees to pay respects to a foremost citizen, with notable floral decorations.

Since April the Dak TH Cemetery Association has suspended grass food fertilizer Wool and Tabor offerings. The association reported 870.15 from two entertainments and 124.00 from popular subscription.
The Southern Railway is actively locating a line from Johnson City through Marion toward McKinney gap, with preliminary surveys complete and an engineering corps at work. The McKinney gap claim is erroneous per the Journal and Tribune, as the Southern previously pursued the gap but was bested by the South & Western. no crowning point is announced, though the route is likely where the grade suits factory needs.
The Carolina Company of this county organized to undertake construction contracts on the South and Western Ry in North Carolina. T. F. Davis states the firm will extend the road for a South Atlantic seaport link with heavy grading required through the Carolina mountains. Construction material is being shipped into the mountains and work is to proceed without delay according to the Bristol Courier.
