After twenty eight years in business W J Elliott retires from the Crockett County Sentinel selling the paper to a stock company He has made a good paper and the rent he is taking is modest The Memphis Commercial Appeal published a reunion edition May 28 with history and photographs of notable persons Representative Bankhead commented on suffrage and political cautions The article also mentions John Allison's twentieth century map of Tennessee and remarks on education and civic matters in the region.

Unaka Springs to Come Again After Flood

Garbers Tennessee June 1902 editor notes Unaka Springs Hotel delayed opening until June 15 due to lumber loss and ongoing repairs plasterers start today. Flood damages at Unska and surrounding summer residences include destroyed cottages pine trees and a ruined railroad bridge drifting to Wilder's dam. Bridge crew salvage timbers and some may be reused awaiting company plans to rebuild.

Can't Hang Birchfield Thirty Year Sentence

Jim Birenfield a noted county murderer was sentenced last week to thirty years in the state penitentiary. The Rogersville hearing before Judge H. T. Campbell followed a history of multiple prison terms and a fatal arson murder tied to his wife.

Boundary line re-survey marks Bristol city limits monuments

Commission Baylor and Buchanan completed a new Tennessee Virginia boundary line through Bristol from east to west along Main Street. White flags mark each end with a six foot monument planned in the west. A two foot monument to be placed in the cemetery on the eastern line. They will survey east of Bristol toward White Top mountain and Cumberland mountain and finish this year. The notice promotes Grove's Chill Tonic for malaria with a no cure no pay claim.
