The case of George Allen vs John Gregg was tried in circuit court at Jonesboro. Gregg faced arson charges for burning his barroom last winter but the jury acquitted him on purely circumstantial evidence. Also noted were related trials set for next term and other local reactions.
Tom Allison was found dead last Thursday afternoon in a room at the foot of Stratton Hill. Death resulted from strangulation due to a lung hemorrhage. The city physician noted he had been dead for hours. burial arranged by the city at Oak Grove cemetery.
