Southland Heroine to Publish Book on War Service

Washington reports Mrs. Ella Newsome Trader, famed for nursing Confederates and Union prisoners, to publish a book about her Civil War service. She gave $75,000 early in the war and later worked in the pension office after losing sight in one eye and becoming nearly deaf. A Union soldier she nursed plans to write the volume after gathering years of data.

New York December 9. Producers and consumers condemned business piracy as driving up living costs. Long Island farmers testified that Lima beans selling for 40 cents a bushel were found at 15 cents a quart in Washington, while cauliflower fetched 45 cents a barrel and netted 26 cents in advance at New York markets.
