Two Tennessee conventions split as Evans and Brownlow rise
In Nashville on April 20 two Republican conventions formed rival delegations to Philadelphia. The Evans faction bolted, forming a separate convention after a split over fair representation. Brownlow supporters organized a state-wide ticket, platform, and new committee, while Evans backed McKinley and nominated Poston for governor.

Carmack Leading in Upper County Talk for Senator Seat
Cleveland lawyer Charlie W. Leter at the Palace hotel notes Carmack is favored for senator by upper county voters while McMillin’s rifle issue and Snodgrass’ late entry hurt his bid.
