Wheat Program Changes Explained for Comanche County
County Extension Agent Floyd Key explains the 1973 Wheat Program with major changes from 1972. Mandatory set aside rises to 86 percent, extra set aside up to 150 percent, and payments drop to 88 cents per bushel for added set aside. Plentings combine 1972 harvested acres and 1972 extra set aside minus 1973 added set aside. Farmers should calculate profitability for grazing and yields before choosing to participate.
