The Comanche County Telephone Co Inc shareholders elected Lloyd B. Fritts Harold Easley and Walter Mazurek to three year terms as directors. New by laws aim to have each exchange represented by a shareholder director by 1971. The carrier serves 2500 subscribers with underground DDD service across 850 route miles.

Peanut Growers Urged to Vote on Texas Referendum

Texas peanut producers are urged to vote on a statewide referendum to authorize a sales time assessment funding research, promotion, education, and disease and insect control. Ballots were mailed September 6 and must be returned by September 24 for validity.

Brownwood firm lands Comanche paving contract

J. P. Brocksch of Brownwood won the Comanche paving contract for about 8 miles of street work. His bid was 101 922.86 versus Abilene Paving’s 124 962.99. Streets include Walcott Avenue, College Street, Grand Street, Houston FM 590, Elm Street and Wright Street. Work starts next week and runs about 90 working days.

Agri AIRE Inc of Beloit Kansas moves into Comanche with Joel Prescott heading operations. The 35th Comanche County Junior Livestock Show announces a weigh-in for commercial steers on Saturday September 13. All 4 H and FFA members must weigh in at the Livestock Show Barn from 9 a.m. to noon. Steers must weigh under 500 pounds and gain committee approval to show. Daymond Power and Elton McDonald act as weigh masters with Gayle Mahan and Deryl Johnson assisting.

Bobby Arthur Commended by U S Air Force

Bobby Arthur of Arthur Chevrolet Oldsmobile in Comanche was commended by the U S Air Force for assisting with local recruiting. He served four years in the Air Force and has continued to work with recruiters. Master Sgt Charles Morris and Master Sgt Johnson presented the citation in Comanche.

Indians Open Grid Season Friday Night With Dublin

The Comanche Indians host the Dublin Lions in the 1969 season opener at 8:00 p.m. Comanche is the favorite after two scrimmage wins over Wylie and Albany. Dublin, which tied Bangs and was shut out by Eastland, has fought Comanche close in recent years.
