Comanche County Fair Promises Big 70th Anniversary Events

The Comanche County Fair scheduled for October 6 to 8 will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the county organization with a historical pageant and a full three days of entertainment. Highlights include a home men rodeo and goat roping, a one act play contest, a band concert, a two cylinder flivver race, and a grand parade leading to the ball park. Special baby prize show with a $25 prize is planned under the guidance of Mrs. Kilpatrick. The exhibit program features agricultural and horticultural displays, livestock, poultry, canned fruits, and other county fair attractions with season tickets to go on sale soon.

Teachers in Attendance At Institute in Stephenville

The District Teachers Institute for the counties of Erath Eastland and others is in Stephenville this week. All teachers of the four counties in the district are expected to attend.

Comedians Return to Comanche for September Week

Toms Comedians, famous performers once in Comanche three years ago, return for the week of September 15 to 18. The Harley Sadler show company will perform vaudeville with a fine orchestra and plays, traveling from German to Comanche for this engagement.

Lovelace Heads North to Buy Furniture for Higginbotham Stores

Comanche County Tax Rolls Show Valuation Decline and Ship Dog Renditions

The Comanche County tax rolls total valuation this year stands at $13,695,862 with 6542 poll taxes, up 25 from last year. Property values include 70,595 acres of land at $6,849,65, 836,876 livestock $375,400 town lots $1,862,455 banks $382,890 railroads $641,635 telegraph lines $105,160 pipe lines $427,580 and tax collections across funds totaling General revenue $60,248.35 Special road $39,694.98 Independent school $79,832.58. The rolls reveal a $800,000 valuation drop from last year and note 100 dogs valued at $500 and 50 dogs at $2,500.

Historical parade seeks 150 participants for Comanche County fair

About 150 persons are desired to take part in the big historical parade celebrating the seventieth anniversary of Comanche County at the Comanche County Fair. Last Outdoor Children Play Night Set For September 17

The event on the Court House Lawn marks what is likely the last outdoor Play Night this year. The band provides music and other entertainment is planned. Parents are invited to attend with their children and play directors will be appointed to organize games.

Merger Talks With Cotton Belt Katy and KC Railways

Cotton Belt officials K M Post A Dyer and B F Yowell met Comanche Chamber of Commerce directors to discuss a proposed merger of the Cotton Belt Katy and Kansas City Southern railroads. The group outlined the plan and urged the Interstate Commerce Commission to approve, with the chamber adopting a resolution in support.

Citizens Assist In Comyn Program

A community fair program staged by Comyn citizens on September 2 featured contributions from neighboring cities. De Leon musicians performed violin saxophone and mirimbaphone while Dublin's orchestra offered selections. Delegations to Attend Road Meet and Farm Bureau Session

Delegates from Kerrville Fredericksburg Llano San Saba and Goldthwaite will attend a Comanche hosted luncheon on September 17 to discuss the Pecan Belt Highway project from Goldthwaite to San Antonio. Texas Farm Bureau directors meet in District Court room Saturday at two with John T. Orr delivering the address and a 12:30 luncheon at the Colonial Hotel.

Highway Delegation Aims for Comanche Cisco Route

Chamber of Commerce committee from Rising Star Cisco and Comanche met in Rising Star to plan sending a delegation to Austin. They will urge the State Highway Commission to designate a highway from Comanche to Cisco via Rising Star connecting with the Bankhead highway at Cisco. The proposal has been considered before but delayed previously.

County Democratic Executive Committee to hear recount request

The Executive Committee meets at the Courthouse at ten o clock Wednesday September 15 to consider John R Slaughter s petition for a recount of the August 28 primary votes. The petition alleges invalid ballots poll tax issues non residents absentee vote omissions and premature closing of a box. If refused a District Judge may order a recount.
