The Har. On Saturday event invites reporters to attend a Goodwill Club sponsored gathering. The schedule notes a five o'clock dress and a special Hawaiian Tobie Robinson features, with make on hand and plenty of fun planned.
Barret Hereford Ranch of Comanche claimed its third straight grand champion bull title with W B Royal Mixer 229 at the Iowa State Fair Des Moines. W B Proud Mixer led Illinois and Missouri wins and competes at Lincoln Nebraska. The ranch also earned reserve champion at Sedalia with WB Larry Mixer Domino 66. Walter Jack Barret and Roger Murphree showcase 11 top Herefords as they return home from Missouri and Iowa fairs.
The 1955 County Convention re elected County Committeemen for 1956 starting September 1. Herman Barnett Gustine is Chairman and Gustine Thomas G. Grisham is Vice President from De Leon. Regular members include William F. Bryant Sidney First alternate Robert Reed Sidney Second Alternate Sanford A. Moore Sidney. They vow to administer the Farm Program fairly and invite producers to meet Fridays to discuss issues.
The Comanche County Singing Convention meets at the Freewill Baptist Church in Comanche Friday night Sept. 9.
Charles W. Stafford of Sidney received his Master of Education degree from Texas A&M College at the August graduation.
Comanche Indians bring 55 football season opener against McGregor Bulldogs Friday at 8 pm under new coaches Murphy and Scott. Injuries thin the squad with Pettit Hambrick Cox Sliger limited but expected in uniform. Ted Hicks to lead offense with Brewster and Conway anchoring line. Bill Clemons to call play by radio.
The National Farm Loan Association of Comanche holds its annual stockholders meeting Saturday afternoon September 10 at 2 00 in the District Courtroom Courthouse Comanche. W N Johnson of the Federal Land Bank of Houston will speak J A Lightfoot presides Directors include Gail Dudley J V Lee L T Cunningham Cliff Pettit John Robertson secretary treasurer Two directors will be elected and ten percent dividend checks will be distributed Refreshments will be served Stockholders and others are urged to attend.
Farmers and ranchers are urged to attend a 9 a.m. demonstration on Tuesday September 13 at the George Willis farm three miles northwest of Comanche on Highway 36. G O Hoffman Exane Service Range Specialist will demonstrate methods of applying 245 T Ammate and CMA chemicals to control brush and trees.
Funeral services for Lawrence Samuels Sr 76 retired grocer were held at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev E H Lightfoot in charge Burial in Oakwood Cemetery He died of a heart attack at his son's home in San Angelo Born September 16 1878 in Galveston Texas He married Cornelia B McNeill September 16 1925 in Temple Texas He was formerly with Piggly Wigley J R B Super Market in Comanche Survived by wife two sons George A San Angelo Lawrence Jr Fort Worth four grandchildren a brother Aaron and a sister both of Galveston
Emmet Hayes an 81 year old retired farmer from Gustine Texas died August 26 1955 at his farm home Funeral services were held by Rev Jimmie Dobbs at Comanche Siloam Cemetery Macksville Funeral Home Burial followed Music was provided by a quartet including Roland Miller Eva Compton and J D Center with organist Pallbearers named Derre Hayes King Hayes Russell Hayes Bert Hayes Douglas Dobbs and Herrell Gaddy Hayes was born May 13 1874 in Nonalville Bell County He was the son of J L and Mary Hayes He came to Comanche County at age nine and spent most of his life in Gustine area He married Johia Waldrop October 24 1897 and they had six children Edward Dalton Wayne Mrs Robert Allen Gustine Mrs Richard Burt Carlton and Mrs Boyd Dooley Carlton He had seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Survived by three brothers and three sisters Jessie Hayes Mineral Wells M J Hayes Dublin Newt Hayes Comanche Mrs Jim Neel Hollywood California Mrs Emma Manning Gustine Mrs Diane Cox Gustine and other relatives and friends
Carolyn Sue Tidmore 18 daughter of Mr and Mrs J Tidmore of Turkey formerly of the Gap Community Comangan County was killed in a head on collision between a car and a truck Monday morning August 29 Norbitt Mullins 25 also of Turkey died in the same crash. Joint funeral services were held at Turkey Tuesday and burial followed at Stag Creek Cemetery in Sidney with ministers from Cro Manche and Brownwood in charge.
Funeral services were held at 3 30 p m September 8 at the Comanche Funeral Home for Mrs C H Henry Stanton Sr 82 who died September 6 in San Antonio after a long illness Burial followed at Heard Church Cemetery with Rev Sterling J Isham officiating Survivors include two sons of Stanton in San Antonio a son Charles Stanton of Hamilton two daughters Mrs Pred Beautreister of Ridgefield Park New Jersey and Mrs Ed P Richardson of Alexandria Louisiana
The Sidney Eagles host Fairy Friday night to open 1955 six man football at the Eagle Memorial Stadium. Kickoff at 8 pm with halftime dedication ceremonies. Admission 25 cents students 50 cents adults. Probable starters include Glenn Johnson Gerald Hillis Russell Cleveland Bobby Caffey Joe French and Larry Underwood. Eight lettermen return for Coach Massengale.
Gustine High School Tigers meet Brookesmith 6 man in a non conference game at Gustine Friday night. Gustine won 32-6 at Carlton on Pride night. Sidney plans nine games this season with a full schedule.
