Committees Form For Road Improvement In Comanche County

An organized committee system is set up to oversee road improvement across Comanche County. The central committee named J. N. Bates secretary and W. H. Slider as chairman, with members including Denny, Dugas, Dewey, Hoelusler, Wood, Speed, and others. Each road leading into Comanche will have a dedicated committee to inspect and ensure roads are in first class condition before fall 1925. Committees will meet as needed and seek citizen cooperation to improve and preserve roads and make the county a desirable place to live.

Man Convicted in Tarring Case Aids and Feathers Incident

Frederick Mad, Detith Arthur tee found guilty without jury in renit court last night of aiding and wetting in the tarring and feathering of Miss Dorothy tianmden. The defendant faces a penalty from six to ten years. Counsel for Rice, released on bond, filed a motion for a new trial as 17 related cases remain unresolved. The jury returned a verdict after the attack occurred yesterday afternoon with Rice testifying he drove to the scene out of curiosity and denied participation.

In Birmingham the Ku Klux Klan staged a funeral like procession for Senator Oscar W. Underwood with 15 000 spectators present. A burial of a mock body followed from a platform as leaders spoke. The event coincided with a large Klan rally and thousands joined in the spectacle.

Death of J H Thornton Former Sheriff Of This County

J H Thornton a former county citizen and sheriff in the populist era was found dead in his Breckenridge home on Saturday October 11 death attributed to heart failure His funeral was held at Stag Creek cemetery on Sunday October 12 with many relatives and friends attending He was born June 14 1847 in Marion Tennessee came to Texas in 1869 to Comanche county in 1872 married Missouri Young in 1878 and had four children two surviving R C of Breckenridge and another son In Gap he was a merchant postmaster and partner in a gin business He later owned several farms and served as sheriff before settling in Hasse later he left the county It is noted he was a Mason and is mourned by many across the county.

Indians Triumph Over Stephenville In 12 to 0 Victory

Comanche Indians defeated Stephenville 12 to 0 on the local field with team effort leading the win. Marshall Dillard and Pulliam lined the penetration while Mason contributed strong defense and the line earned praise for both sides. The Stephenville offense was stifled by Indian tackles and the team hopes to carry this effort toward the district finals.

Mrs Tidmore Dies At Colorado City

Mrs. Mattie Emma Tidmore 31 wife of R L Tidmore died October 16 at Colorado City from heart failure. Born in Brown County she moved to Comanche County as a child and lived in Gap before the move. Survived by husband four children parents three brothers and three sisters. Burial was at Stag Creek Cemetery October 18 with Rev. Lambert officiating. The family receives many condolences.
