The Comanche County Free Press notes the fair opening Thursday morning with a parade featuring Indian stunts and the Queen’s float led by Catherine Chilton and Miss Jeffie Thomas. Exhibits, duck wall halls, and community booths are described, with events at the tabernacle including concerts and singings in the evenings.
Comanche County Cotton Association plans a bus caravan to the State Fair on Wednesday October 19 leaving at 1 a.m. The group aims to enlist cars, publicize the trip, and coordinate news coverage. Committee members include Turks, Beene, Miller, Bilis, Aaron rd, Harris, and Laker. The party will travel Thursday and may stay overnight in Deaths.
The Comanche firemen held their last meeting of the year at the fire station with 25 to 30 members dining on stew regarded as the best yet. They planned to resume meetings in February, noted the paid for pulmeter, and thanked Majestic manager Caver for theater tickets following the gathering.
Brounk's Comedians will fill the week beginning Monday November 15 in Comanche. A fuller list of offerings for the week appears on another page of this issue.
The Seventeenth Band from Comanche American Legion will accompany the Cisco football team to Abilene on Friday October 17. A Cisco gentleman heard their concert Sunday afternoon and booked the band for Monday morning to perform.
Official program lists 10:00 a.m. parade forms at the high school and 11:00 a.m. invocation by Rev G E Henderlite. Mayor J R Eanes delivers welcome, followed by opening remarks and the Purposes of the Fair by Rev J C Boyd. Band concerts, judging of dairy cattle, poultry, hogs and beef cattle, an auction sale, football parade and game, premium announcements, and a school children's parade. Exhibits at the Methodist Tabernacle and Livestock Pavilion with community singing sessions and a baby show rounding out the day.
Comanche and San Saba football squads clash at the local ball park Friday on the second day of the fair at 8 30 p m a high quality game is expected The matchup will be followed by a pep parade by Comanche city schools led by the American Legion Band The Comanche squad hopes to notch another win.
Misses Mary Doyle and Blanche Grainger announce a gift shop opening in a Roberson Sisters store section on November 1. The shop will run through November and December offering many Christmas gift articles, each with a touch of hand work.
J W L Hall director of field service of the Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association and once secretary of the group will speak in Comanche Saturday morning. He is described as an interesting speaker and a cordial invitation is extended for all to attend. Comanche Farm Bureau members say they are fortunate to host him during this visit.
Duck shooting season opens October 16 and lasts until January 31. Afterward deer season runs November 2 through December 31 with a bag limit of 15 per day per hunter. Quail season begins December 1 and runs through January 31. Doves are open now with a daily bag limit of 15.
Comanche will conduct a Lyceum course with a lineup including The McCords on October 17 Moscow Artist on November 21 Vernon Quintet on December 22 National Trio on January 5 and The Cinderella Man on February 3. About 22 town leaders guaranteed the program and season tickets will be offered soon.
A San Saba county exhibit, carried by a local gentleman, moved through Comanche on Monday en route to Dallas to be entered at the State Fair.
J. E. Burger poultry expert from St. Louis will present an illustrated lecture on poultry at the Comanche courthouse next Thursday October 16 at 5 p.m. Moving pictures will illustrate the talk. The lecture is described as very interesting and instructive with admission free and all invited.
