Galveston Island truck growers seek aid after 1915 hurricane

A Galveston Island appeal to the governor and Texas citizens requests relief for farmers devastated by the August 16 1915 hurricane. Frank McCarty Injured in Waco Oil Mill Incident

Frank McCarty son of Dr J F McCarty was struck on the head by coworker at the Brazos Valley Oil Mill in Waco Monday about 1 30 PM. He was taken to a sanitarium for treatment with prospects of recovery and W E Spencer was arrested. McCarty recently married Miss Mary Price.

The Comanche Mercantile Co. went bankrupt after failing to open Monday and was adjudged bankrupt by a Federal Court in Fort Worth. Creditors meet October 9 in Fort Worth. Some staff find new positions as the firm winds up. stock to be sold to the highest bidder next month.

Gasoline Tank Explosion Wrecks Ardmore Town

A gasoline tank explosion in Ardmore Oklahoma on Monday devastated the downtown area. Forty seven killed with many unaccounted for. extensive property loss and destruction of the union depot and railroad cars. The blast due to a workman hammer spark, towered over the town with fires spreading rapidly. Remaining structures condemned by local architects and government inspectors.

Poor Farm Buries Last Inmate

Bertha McDonald, the final resident of the county poor farm, was buried by the county last week after sixteen years on the facility. She arrived when dumped from a train at De Leon and spent her remaining years in care, becoming completely helpless in the last year.

Prospects for Fair at Abilene

Abilene Texas hosts the Central West Texas Fair October 12 to 16 with racing stock from Midland Amarillo Hillsboro Oklahoma City and others. Injured by Pet Colt Bell Suffers Knee Wound

V. V. Bell was kicked by a pet colt while breaking it to harness on Tuesday afternoon. He sustained a severe knee cap cut and abdominal bruise. A physician treated the wounds and he is using crutches now, with recovery expected soon.

Texas Light & Power Co gets 50 year franchise in Comanche

The Texas Light and Power Co was granted a fifty year franchise to operate in Comanche after purchasing the local Light and Power Co from Hoff and Harris. The deal includes taking over by February, building a high power line, and installing new meters and equipment. The company promises cheap, uniform rates across its service area, with expansion plans toward Dublin Stephenville and Glen Rose.
