Hazard Files Appeal After Reversal of Comanche Verdict

Dick Hazzard given death sentence by a Comanche jury in summer 1928 for alleged assault on Velma Bankhead. A Hamilton County jury later imposed life imprisonment in September after the Comanche verdict was reversed and transfer occurred. He has given notice of appeal and remains in Hamilton County jail per Judge Eidson.

Prisoner’s Night-Guard Volunteer Earns Five Dollars

Fred Hayworth 45 works as a voluntary prisoner guard at Lubbock County jail earning five dollars per night while guarding Clay Lester charged with murdering his estranged wife. Lester asks for companionship at night citing insomnia and stomach trouble as reasons. Lester’s venue motions were mostly overruled and bail denied at habeas corpus. he remains in isolated confinement as his trial proceeds. Three Taner UI Liquor Raids Net Small Still and Mash

Officers J. T. Gilbreath W. A. Pate of Comanche John Nabors Emmett Smith of De Leon Bill Gibbs and City Marshal Burnett of Dublin raided D. C. George's farm four miles northeast of De Leon. A small still and twenty gallons of mash were seized near a ravine beside a living tent. Waldrop and D. C. George were arrested. their bonds set at 1500 dollars. George bonded out Thursday.

Mrs. J. H. Prater of Cosmance won three prizes at the State Red Chicken exposition in Austin. She took first in her pen of old chickens second in the young pen and fifth in the pullet class.
