Rental Cotton Checks Distributed to Comanche County Farmers
Tom J. Wortham reports rental cotton checks are being sent to Comanche County producers who signed contracts in 1924 and 1935. Up to 1109 checks totaling 14248.21 have arrived. 200-300 more expected. The Bankhead sign-up begins and will cost Saturday June 1. Farmers must plant 40 percent of permitted cotton acres to receive payments. Tax exemption certificates issued on actual acres planted unless land cannot be planted. Acreage will be measured for both rented and permitted acres in 1935.

Four Year Old Boy Drowns In Leon River
Billie Don, four year old grandson of H Price of Pettit, drowned Friday afternoon in the South Leon River near Old Cora while playing with boys from the H Price and Joe Price families. They searched for a log, found him missing, and a river search quickly recovered the body. Despite revival attempts in Gustine and Dublin, respiration failed. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Union Cemetery.

Fifty Six Year Old Marriage License Called for Monday
The Comanche Lions Club approved a $50 appropriation to wire the cannery plant and install gas and water. The Relief Commission could not fund the work, so approval was unanimous. The plant’s machinery should arrive soon and canning may begin next week. J H Harrison, longtime Gustine public weigher, and Miss N F Blankenship were married in 1879. Rev. Lewis Brock officiated. Harrison moved from Parker County in 1877 and has lived in Gustine area since. Mrs. Harrison, a Milam County native, moved with her parents to Comanche County in 1878.
