Dorothy A. Williams and "Speedy" Hicks chosen as class favorites by the Senior Class of 1948. Dorothy is a band twirler and news editor of the Senior Edition of the Chief. Speedy excels in sports and starred as a football player.
The Comanche County Home Demonstration Council gathered Saturday May 8 in the county courtroom from 2 to 4 pm with seventeen members and two special guests Miss Betty Stewart of the Veterans Administration and Mrs Larry Kittle one of the first twenty eight women to begin demonstration work in Texas. The meeting celebrated National Home Demonstration Week and featured reports from district attendees and a skit on popular magazines. Cakes and cookies were served after the program. Members are urged to attend future second Saturday meetings from 2 to 4 pm in the courthouse.
The Comanche Study Club held its annual dinner Thursday May 13 in the Comanche High School Homemaking Dining Room. Mrs Julian Williams of Waco spoke on Texas history, with Tall Tales and Brags. Outstanding members and guests were honored, and new president Mrs Gail Dudley thanked Williams for her talk.
The Tuesday Club gathered at Mrs. W A Robertson's home on May 11. Out of town guests included Mrs. Jack Cauley of Fort Worth and Helen Darby of Los Angeles with local guests and club members also present. Mrs. Cauley and Mrs. Huntington led in high scores during bridge games.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aaron of Shreveport were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Durham Jr. for two days and nights. Mrs. Durham hosted a buffet dinner with yellow iris centerpiece on Wednesday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Prath Aaron, Mr and Mrs Cagle, and Mrs Prather of Crowley.
Wilkerson hosted a Wednesday afternoon gathering at 605 North West 36th Street with three tables of play. High honors went to Mrs. Walter Jack Barret while Mrs. Lawrence Smallwood was second. Mrs. Bill Prather of Crowley Louisiana won team prize. Several guests and players are named among attendees and organizers.
Delpha Blackburn and Sat M L Conway exchanged vows at 7 30 PM Saturday May 1 in Goldthwaite Methodist Church with Rev Lowry officiating Nora Berry provided organ music. The bride wore a white rayon crepe dress and pink corsage while the groom in Army dress uniform.
Announcements received in Comanche announce the approaching marriage of Freeland Shoemaker daughter of the Shoemaker family. The wedding is set for May 29 with plans pending for the ceremony and reception.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Fagan and daughter Katheryn from Fort Worth visited his parents Mr and Mrs Pate Fagan in Comanche. Also in Comanche for Mother’s Day were Mr and Mrs Wilson of San Angelo Mrs Bill Wilson and Roy Wilson of Gustine visiting Mrs Winnie Wyche.
