W D Jenkins former County School Superintendent 1911 1917 died Wednesday ending a long career in education. He began teaching as a teen and served more than 45 years in schools and local government. Jenkins taught four terms and led city schools, attended Sam Houston Normal College, and remained active up to his death assessing city taxes the day before.

Funeral services were held at Comanche Funeral Home for Virgil Ray Steele 14 who died Thursday night from injuries when a dump truck overturned near Comanche. Rev E G Gregory Jr led at First Baptist Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Surviving relatives include Rob Steele the father Mrs Mattie Sanford of Comanche his guardian sister Bertha Mae Foster and half siblings Cecil Chappel Mae Webb.

American Legion Sends Smokes To Soldiers Overseas

May 21 collection day invites every county family to put metal cans into action against the Axis. Comanche residents may use a city truck for pickup or bring cans to the City Market sheds, with preparation steps including washing drying flattening and boxing the cans for transport.
