Funeral Rites For Mrs. Emily Lloyd At Sipe Springs

Funeral rites were held Wednesday for Mrs. Emily Lloyd at Sipe Springs with burial at the same place. She died Sunday at her son W. W. Lloyd’s home in Altus Oklahoma after moving there twenty years ago from the Springs community. Born August 15 in Ontario Canada she wed Wil L Lloyd in February 1876. Survivors include sons W. W. Lloyd of Altus M B Lloyd of Altus Homer Lloyd of Los Angeles Roy Lloyd of San Antonio nine grandchildren and one sister Mrs ie Locker of Dallas.

Garner Endorsed In Convention At Comanche County Meet

In a lively Comanche County Democratic Convention delegates voted 78 to 44 to endorse John Nance Garner for president if his name appeared at the State Convention in Waco on May 28. Notables present included Oscar Callaway, H. L. Stewart, W. E. Lawe, and O. H. Moore.

De Leon Defeats Comanche 10 8 In Opening Baseball

De Leon beat Comanche 10 to 8 at the Grammar School ground in the season opener before a large crowd. Hicks brothers Buster and Bill combined for 18 strikeouts, with Buster fanning the first seven. Comanche led 7-2 in the sixth before seven runs by De Leon. Pinch hitter Cox delivered a bases loaded triple in the fifth. Comanche to host May and Sipe Springs in a Sunday double header.

Piggly Wiggly Sets Long Distance Sales Record

W. H. Thate owner of the local Piggly Wiggly reports a new distance sales record after delivering two cartons of George Washington smoking tobacco to James D. Gibson in the Panama Canal Zone Fort Davis area. Parcel post cost 78 cents. Gibson, visiting his father-in-law near Energy, placed the order after trying the tobacco during his stay. Thate notes prior orders to Mexico and Canada, but this latest shipment surpasses them all.

Moore Declines House Campaign After Fire Loss

O H Moore states he will not run for Representative this year due to losing his home and much of his belongings in a recent fire. He explains his duty is to rebuild his house and attend to family needs, thanking supporters for their confidence.

Baxter's Place Anniversary Sale Opens Saturday

Baxter's Place in Comanche enters its second anniversary with a two week sale. Manager Rouss Baxter explains the promotion thanks customers for two years of patronage. A four page advertisement in The Chief highlights sale prices. The store opened in May 1938 in the J. F. Tate building on the square's southeast corner.

Comanche High honors students with perfect attendance

Six students at Comanche High School earned perfect attendance for the school year. Three are seniors Elymia Mazurek Mary Frances Miller and Irene Warren one sophomore Sue Mc Donald and two freshmen David Compton and Billa Jane Shankle.

Trial Set for Young Killer in Grandmother Murder

Henry Henry, 23, is scheduled for trial in District Court before Judge R. B. Cross on charges of murder in the October 23 death of his 78-year-old grandmother Mrs. Martha McGuire. A venire of 100 men is called. trial in Howard Garage on Depot Street. Six days earlier the charred bodies of Mrs. McGuire and J. B. Haynes were found. Henry Haynes confessed to killing his grandmother and uncle over alleged slurs toward his mother.
