Jack Ramsay has joined Comanche National Bank, announced by president Jack Moore. A Stephenville High School and Tarleton State College graduate who studied at Texas A and M, Ramsay is active in the Jaycees and resides in Comanche with his wife Madge and two young sons at 105 10th Street. The Ramsays are Baptists.
The cancer drive continues through May 10 and a complete financial report will be provided after. Donors may contact Mrs. Higginbotham or deposit contributions at local banks.
John Ward a 44 year old Blanket resident died when his 1959 car with two Latin American youths veered off U S Highway 67 377 nine miles west of Comanche and overturned twice at 8 20 Sunday night May 1 Urbano Ortegon 20 and Juan Jausquez 18 were injured and hospitalized at Blackwood Mims in Comanche later transferred to a Galveston hospital Ortegon with pelvis chest and other injuries Jausquez with a broken leg and other injuries the investigation attributes loss of control near the Comanche County line near the area specified Continued on Page 12
Dr. James O Lane, 82, Comanche’s senior physician, stays active delivering babies at home and treating patients. A Star Telegram profile notes his open office records, lifelong hobby practice, nightly calls, and a Washington letter from Congressman Omar Burleson praising his service.
Highland in Erath County tops District 8 of the Texas Community Improvement Program earning $100. Stag Creek in Comanche County places second with $75, followed by Mullin in Mills County third. Other Comanche entries include Newburg at sixth and Soda Springs at seventh. Pearland not listed.
Golden Arrow Service Station schedules formal opening Friday and Saturday May 5 and 6. Managed by A D Daniels and Curly Setzler, both De Leon natives, the station offers 24 hour service, a tire retreading bay, wash and lubrication, modern pumps, and Goodrich tires. Cosden products promoted for Texas motorists.
Blanket hosts the ninth annual FFA Rodeo on May 4 5 6 at the Blanket Football Field. Two divisions 4 H Club and FFA and two classes high school and grade school compete in events such as bull riding calf ribbon roping barrel racing calf scramble and greased pig race. Trophies awarded for high point teams and individual winners with admission set at 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.
The Comanche School personnel will stay the same for 1961 62 with changes only from resignations reassignments or possible new hires due to enrollment. A Tax Equalization Board for June work was approved with Floyd Prather Louis Harelik and A E Robertson named. The district set 1961 62 taxes at 1.10 maintenance and 0.40 interest and sinking.
The Indigo Band will hold a Sunday afternoon concert and hamburger supper at Lake Eanes Park on May 7 at 2 30 with a second outdoor concert at 3 00 by the Indian Band. Hamburgers will be served from 4 to 6 o'clock. Tickets cost 1 00 and are sold by band students. The Comanche High School graduating class of 1916 will host its second class reunion June 5.
