Death of Wm. Carnes Pioneer and Civil War Veteran
Wm. Carnes aged 80 died at his daughter Mrs. Wendell Hammers home in DeLeon Tuesday night. Burial was held the next afternoon in DeLeon cemetery. A Comanche county pioneer, he was Georgia native who moved to Comanche county as a youth and served in a Texas Confederate cavalry unit. He later lived in DeLeon over 40 years, with stints in Dublin. He was county clerk of Comanche and long time DeLeon postmaster. Survived by two daughters and five sons.
