District Court proceedings include judgments for plaintiffs in three cases L B Russell vs Courtney Underhill Rex Ridgeway vs S J Hicks and A J Gray vs Rebecca Gray A list of Petit Jurors for the second week was sworn and empaneled. The Grand Jury reported 17 indictments all misdemeanors.
Commissioners Court in special session approves $2.50 each for A J Gray P H Chilton L B Thomas J W Carson D C Dingus C L Cox investigating J E Freeman and $1 for witness R B Easley. Also approves $6 refund for taxes mistakenly paid by B J Pittman.

Eeeles West Virginia April 28 Eleven men dead and thirty six severely burned after an explosion at shaft No 6 New River colliery trapping 266 miners in shafts 5 and 6. Rescue car rushed from Matoka as East Virginian mines fall under Guggenheim interests and modern equipment touted.
The City Council in regular session unanimously elected M. V. Skinner Mayor pro tem. Fire Chief R. C. Graham was granted a one week leave to attend the State Firemen's Convention in Victoria. A committee of T. S. Collins and J. A. Montgomery was appointed to work with Jack Stephens to secure a new dumping ground or arrange satisfactory alternatives.
Mrs. Slider hosted a Tuesday afternoon reception at W. R. Slider’s home for Miss Rose Blanch Walker, a missionary return from Kaising, China, and Miss Maudie Albritton of Miles, who plan to serve in mission fields alongside Wilson Fielder. Mother Fielder also attended as host.
A boy and a girl were born on the 20th to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wetzel. The boy died shortly after birth while the girl and mother are both doing nicely.
South American envoys have requested an armistice between the United States and Mexico. Ambassador De Gama says President Wilson and General Huerta have been notified. conditions include a military halt and no civil unrest against Americans. Francisco Villa leaves Juarez for Chihuahua to meet General Carranza amid tensions over the Vera Cruz note.
Washington reports indicate Brazil Chile and Argentina offered good offices to resolve the Mexican crisis. Huerta agreed to preliminary mediation steps and messages from the City of Mexico reached Washington. Das Gama Naon and Riano conferred with Bryan as Berlin urged Huerta to yield to American demands.
Austin Texas April 28 Gov Colquitt announced he would retain the militia at Brownsfield until federal troops arrive as promised by Secretary Garrison. The border near Brownsville remains quiet for now but disorder is feared. Garrison telegraphed an offer to replace the Brownsville militia with a similar number of federal reg ulars and Colquitt accepted to avoid jurisdiction conflicts between the two forces.
More than two hundred American refugees from Mexico landed in Galveston Texas when quarantine was lifted on the Convoy Dixie, the collier Cyclops and the steamship Esperanda. The government provided food and transportation. Some will return home while a few stay temporarily hoping for later permission to return to Mexico.

Local report from Sidney details an alleged suicide attempt by Osvie Jones living north of town. Neighbors say Jones admitted shooting himself in a personal crisis and said he was tired of living.
The Chief Exponent promotes the Comanche Normal School opening on June 2 with a six week term excluding exams. Faculty includes R F Holloway, J B Layne, D F Bel linger, D F Eaton, Miss Emma Wof ford, and more. Last year 105 pupils enrolled. more expected this summer. Regular high school classes will also be offered. Public urged to consider the Comanche Normal.
The Arrow Head annual magazine is in press for Comanche High School and will be distributed before year end. Morton Sullivan serves as editor in chief with Gayle Atwood as business manager and Miss Altan Tannehill as assistant editor, among others. The seventy page book will feature school pictures, class sections, and editor articles. It will be sold by the senior class for $1.00 per copy to cover printing costs. interested students should contact Gayle Atwood or Morton Sullivan to enroll.
John J Rhodes mayor of Honey Grove known as the sweetest town on earth visited town merchants Tuesday while on a clothing house sales trip. He distributed Jim Lowry campaign material and chatted with the Chief Exponent staff recalling his early days as a printer and newspaper man with a lingering fondness for ink.
Gustine will welcome a general merchandise store opened by L. B. Cox and Geo. Terry. The business will occupy the former Duke Drug Co. building with the drug store relocating to new quarters as soon as possible.
The Comanche County Good Roads Executive Committee circulates a petition asking the County Commissioners to appropriate funds to establish a permanent road crew. It calls for twelve mules and equipment not to exceed 3500 dollars and outlines distribution by precinct with a foreman.
Supt Holloway reports the Comanche City Schools will close on May 20 with commencement events led by Dr J M Carroll of Howare Payne College on May 17 11am sermon Judge G H Goodson May 19 8pm senior play and May 20 8pm diplomas delivered The 1914 graduating class exceeds thirty members marking the largest class yet and reflects strong continuation of studies.
