Counties Must Also Battle Pollution

City and county officials in Big Country discussed a new water pollution control bill from the 62nd Legislature. Sam Slaughter of the Texas Water Quality Board said counties will be brought into the program after cities, with enforcement not to be expansive. The plan targets nuisance pollution from car washes and informal dumps, not sewage facilities, and urges cooperation rather than heavy enforcement. Local officials also noted pending ordinances on industrial waste and observed travel of residents between Austin and Snyder.
