Sweet Potato Growers Plan Large Planting Near Comanche

Reports from 30 to 35 farmers at a Courthouse meeting indicate at least 300 acres of sweet potatoes will be planted within five to six miles of Comanche this year. J B Layne projects up to 75 acres along the road from Vandyke to Comanche with many growers adding one to four acres each totaling about 140 acres. The Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce aim to foster a market and a curing plant if acreage justifies it, with seed potatoes described as excellent and treated to prevent disease.
