Granny Mary Florence Towns Celebrates 106th Birthday

Mary Florence Towns known as Granny in Gustine Smith Memorial Nursing Home celebrated her 106th birthday on Sunday March 4. Administrator Denver Doggett presented a large cake with one large and six small candles as friends and a surviving child’s family wished her well. Towns, born March 4 1867 in west Tennessee, has lived in the Texas area most of her life and remembers early travels with relatives, Indian memories, and Fort Worth area landmarks. She has outlived three husbands and remains alert, with rare moodiness, often visiting with the other residents in the home. Her longevity is attributed to a calm temperament and daily tonic rather than heavy medicine.
