Qualifications of Teachers Changed To Some Extent
Texas education officials revised a 1934 rule requiring public school teachers to hold college degrees within three years. Current in-service teachers with 15 years or more experience are exempt, while those with less than 15 years must complete 12 semester hours per year over four years to approach a degree. The changes aim to raise standards without discarding veteran teachers.
