Rev Plez Todd returns for a fifth year as pastor of the First Methodist Church in Comanche marking a first in the church’s history. The Central Texas Methodist Conference in Fort Worth also appointed Todd district director of social concerns and made numerous transfers and new assignments across towns including De Leon Fort Worth Cleburne Temple and Azle.
A daily gathering runs through June 29 at Christ in Evant with guest speaker Jones of the Comanche area directing the sessions. Patterson, former minister in Springtown, is noted as a speaker at the event.
A hearing is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Comanche regarding the Wood District Game issue. The session will address the case involving Erath County and the residue of a person named Warden.
The annual Comanche County 4-H Dress Revue will take place Friday evening June 15 at the Comanche High School Auditorium. The program starts at 7 30 p m with the dress revue at 8 p m. Seventeen clubs from Comanche De Leon Newbury Soda Springs Gustine and Sidney are entered. Ribbons in blue red and white will be awarded based on combined record book construction and appearance scores.
Clarence Huett owner of Service Drug at 129 N Houston receives Frigidaire division top service award from J E Crawford after 10 consecutive years meeting standards. Award cites customer service attitude training parts inventory and cooperative district support. Service Drug has 28 years as a Frigidaire dealer with service manager J D Walker.
The Comanche Jaycees announce a free Safe Driving Clinic at the Jaycee Building on June 18 19 and the following week June 25 26. Each night offers three hour sessions with films and expert instructors. The program is open to all and aims to save lives.
Comanche High School announces Friday night gym sessions from 7:30 to 9 for athletes. Coach Ray Smith says activities include volleyball and weights to build a winning Indian team. Rubber stamps advertised by Comanche Chief in the same notice.
Comanche Garden Club presents Comanche's Tots and Teens on June 29 at 7 30 pm in the Comanche High School Auditorium. Preschoolers perform with teen songs and dances. Jack King and his Stage Band assist. A hand painted plate by Mrs Armstrong Cox will be raffled at 50 cents per chance, proceeds toward completing the new Garden Center.
The Sidney School Annual Reunion is set for Sunday June 17 at the Sidney School campus. Ex students former teachers and friends are invited to visit see and be seen. A basket lunch is requested with bread and drinks furnished.
A negligent homicide charge was filed against Jack W. Van Huss in County Court. Edmondson, a garage and wrecker operator aged 60, died from a June 7 wreck at the intersection of State Highway 36 and US 67 377 near Comanche after his winch was struck by Van Huss’s car. Also injured were cotton truck driver Joachim Ulmer and Comanche Policeman Roy Williams, while Edmondson’s daughter, Pegey, died in 1944 and his father, C M Edmondson, was killed in 1948 nearby.
The Comanche County Young Farmers Chapter hosted its first Annual Field Day Tour with 36 members and several local business leaders in attendance. Stops included Gore Dairy with 500 cows and a large alfalfa operation, Floyd Prather Farm with irrigation and coastal bermuda, Dalton Perkins Farm with varied plots, Bill Evans home showing diversified farming, and Elton McDonald Farm noted for top coastal bermuda and a storage tank.
More than 180 children have enrolled in the two week learn to swim program at Lake Eanes Swimming Pool. Classes run daily from June 4 through the week, with sessions for beginners to advanced and life saving techniques. Admission is 15 cents for children and 35 cents for adults.
Comanche Boy Scouts attend Camp Billy Gibbons near Richland Springs with Eagle Scout Jim Jarratt from Comanche serving three weeks on the staff. Local Scoutmasters Whit Jarratt and Gilmore Durham share duties with the Scouts this week.
The Board of Equalization for Comanche Independent School District will meet on June 19 1962 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the School Homemaking Cottage.
Friday night June 15 is the regular singing night at Sand Hill Church with invitations to attend. Mrs. Bob Scott, chairman, says everyone is welcome to join.
The Comanche County Baptist Youth Association meets with the First Baptist Church of Gustine on Saturday evening June 16 at 8:00. The Billy Graham dramatic film Souls In Conflict will be shown. The public is invited.
Miss Judy Burks, CHS drum major for 1962-63, will attend a Band Major's School at Texas Christian University to study leadership and marching techniques.
Mr and Mrs Morris long time Comanche Public Schools educators are elected as Abilene special education teachers. They plan to move to Abilene soon as the department serves about 1000 students with 43 teachers in a system of over 900. Mr Morris has 16 years in Comanche including principal roles and holds degrees from Daniel Baker College and Hardin Simmons. He is a retired Army lieutenant colonel with several honors including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He and Mrs Morris are active in churches and civic groups.
