The Amers Here Baptist meeting continues next week with sermons by Roy Jo. Boyd at the Baptist tabernacle. County agents report ongoing grasshopper control efforts using poison mash and powder, with many farmers receiving supplies and following the commissioners order.
Ed A. Elliott a traveling representative of Texas Christian University will tour Comanche during June meeting high school graduates interested in training. He notes rising student intent to enter college with an anticipated 1000 enrollments in September 1924.
In Austin Texas June 12 the supreme court ruled impeachment constitutional and within senate jurisdiction. The decision affirms the high court of impeachment as final and original in jurisdiction and confirms Ferguson’s removal as governor. The ruling upholds the decree barring him from office in Texas.
The commissioners court approved an order to open the courthouse on Sundays for public convenience. The ladies rest room will be open all day Sundays.
W H Matthews former Brownwood district presiding elder and frequent Comanche visitor preached at the Methodist church. He now serves as hospital commissioner for a new Fort Worth Methodist hospital with a foundation laid for the 1,000,000 four hundred bed facility owned by the Central Texas Conference.
Geneva June 11 Germany protests to the League of Nations over French troops in the Sarre valley and French control of coal rights for fifteen years. Sir Eric Drummond opened the council session by presenting the note. Germany says continued French forces could influence the plebiscite determining Sarre’s future. The region remains under League administration awaiting a 15 year plebiscite outcome.
The executive committee met Saturday to finalize details for the Old Settlers and Soldiers picnic at Vandyke on Wednesday June 18. The event runs for one day with 9 a.m. exercises and relies on freewill offerings, not dues, for expenses. Eligible members include longtime residents, Civil War survivors, and county residents age 70 plus. Attendees should bring lunch baskets. enrollment is open to all eligible persons. W D Jenkins is president, L B Russell secretary treasurer, J Doss Miller vice president, with Dero ll Nabers, John E McGuire and Joe Jones on the executive committee.
Summer school will begin Monday, June 9, offering all high school subjects. Tuition is 1.50 per week for new subjects and 0.75 per week for making up credits. Remarks by Mrs. Kate Prude and Miss Glennie Hoff.
The Majestic Theater presents a June 16 to 21 program featuring Norma Talmadge in Voice of the Type. Good Old Days comedy on Monday and Tuesday. Gladys Walton stars in A Near Lady and The Johns comedy on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday show Tommy in Mile a Minute Romeo with Look Out Below comedy.
A public letter urges the Comanche County Commissioners to place a band stand on the courthouse lawn next to city and county crowds. The appeal notes widespread support from residents and visitors and offers lumber from Higginbotham for cooperative construction at low cost.
The Comanche American Legion Band will perform Sunday at 3 30 in the courthouse lawn area. A special program is arranged and the public from nearby communities is invited to attend.

A well spudding gathering at the Pope and Wilson well on the Dave Johnson farm near Proctor drew about 2000 people for a picnic and barbecue. The event featured speeches by county and district candidates, announcements for Dublin and Comanche fairs, and music by the Comanche American Legion Band and a Dublin band.
L. C. Shaw district game warden came back from Austin after meetings with other wardens. He reports progress on a proposed game refuge about 100000 acres in Coleman county. Shaw also traveled to the Panhandle earlier in the week.
Berlin reports two thousand small beer halls shut as brewery workers stage a strike now in its third day. Wholesale dealers promise plenty from Munich Dortmund and Würzburg to avert a citywide drought by overtime production.
Miss Gracie Smith and Miss Gladys Burkett were chosen as teachers for Mrof Aluredgy at the Prairie school next year. The Democrat school of Comagebe county aims to consolidate with Prairie, likely soon. If approved, four teachers will be employed, with Miss Morris of Comanche accepted for the position. The community supports the move toward a strong Prairie faculty and better county schooling.
Gov Pat M Neff resumes duties in Austin after a speaking tour to Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington and a Baylor University commencement at Waco Texas. He was away from office since May 28 and returned Tuesday night to Texas.
A list of licenses granted includes J. KR. Grimshaw and Odel Hattox, W. B. Cooper and Jennie Leach, Charlie M. Winkles and Mary Myrt Harris, U. W. Rutherford and Laura Finley, Ed Burdett and Rena Williams, D KE Hoover and Etha Starling, Kk Layman and Nealy Mae Davis.
No preaching at First Presbyterian church next Sunday. Rev. Geo E Henderlite the Pastor will preach in Hico delivering a sermon to local congregants.
The Rector Cunningham Post American Legion plans a big basket picnic for the Fourth of July with committees to arrange the event. The State Highway Department has begun work on designated highways in Comanche County aided by machinery from adjoining counties. A ten ton tractor and grader are in use to reshoulder gravel roads, with additional equipment arriving from Abilene. Thirty local laborers, eight teams, and drag patrols are active, aiming to restore road conditions within about sixty days despite dry weather.
Walter Durham G FP Denny J P Hoff and J M McCrary returned from Fredericksburg where they attended the state pecan meeting. They found the discussions interesting and profitable and came back with a stronger resolve to make Comanche county a pecan county.
J A Thomas of San Angelo campaigner for the state senate spoke at a Proctor picnic Tuesday, announcing his candidacy to voters. He plans to return soon to meet more residents as he engages voters across the sixteen county district including Sterling Irion Schleicher Coke Tom Green Runnels Concho Menard Coleman Brown Mills Comanche McCulloch Mason Gillespie and Kimble.
Convention Hall Cleveland June 12 Calvin Coolidge led the Republican roll call securing 1065 votes as the party rallied behind him. La Follette and Johnson each received small delegations while the rest remained uncommitted or abstained. The rapid tally reflected a decisive, broad based endorsement across regions.
Texas Cotton Manufacturers' Association committee plus A and M College officials reviewed the textile engineering program. They urged emphasis on general engineering with focus on mechanics and recommended summer work for students to improve readiness for Texas mills. Committee members include S. Tatum of Bonham Cotton Mills chair, Hugh St A Clarke of Miller Cotton Mills Waco, and W. S. Morton of Dallas Cotton Mills. Clarke's son, Hugh St Clarke, a 1916 A and M mechanical graduate, was noted.
Governor Pat M Neff spoke at Baylor Universitys seventy ninth commencement urging universities as civilizational engines. He argued government builders are university builders and cited founders of American and Texas government as university educated figures shaping independence and constitutional design.
Comanche Lions beat Dublin Lions 7 to 6 in a Tuesday baseball game at the Pope Wil son Well farm. Officials announced two additional games, one here and one in Dublin, with dates to be released. lineup included Marshall Meese Greene Sullivan Brightman Kiley Kilpatrick Montgomery Slack and others.
