Buddie Dillin Named Manager of Local Ice Plant

Ronald Buddie Dillin, longtime employee of the local ice plant for over 25 years, is appointed manager by Community Public Service Company succeeding John Dillon who transfers to Utesville to run the electric service system. Dillin, son of George and Mrs. Dillon of Comanche, is a respected district figure and has served as trouble man for the district. John Dillon came here six years ago from Leonard where he managed the ice plant.

Carruths Announce Birth of Daughter Named Mar Christine

Mr and Mrs Carruth announce the birth of a daughter at a local hospital on May 25. The infant weighed a portion of a pound and has been named Mar Christine.

W B Nowlin of De Leon announces his candidacy for State Representative from the district comprising Comanche and Mills Counties. He previously ran two years ago and secured a strong vote. He filed with county executive chairs in early June and will release his platform statement soon.

Pilot Charley Swindle Reported Held as German POW

Mrs. Maudine Swindle of Comanche received word June 2 that her husband First Lieutenant Charley D. Swindle, navigator bombardier based in England, is a prisoner of war of the German government. He had been listed as missing in action since April 30 after a raid over Germany. He previously lived at Indian Gap. The War Department telegram promises further information via the Provost Marshal General.

Quartet Singing at Gartman's View Friday Night

Russell Nance president of the Quartet Singing Convention says the event at Gartman's View will feature singers from Stephenville Clairette Gorman and De Leon among others. He invites all to attend and make it one of the best quartet singings yet.

Robt Polvado German Prisoner Reported Missing Hero

Mrs Loma Polvado of Coman received a War Department telegram June 5 stating her son Technical Sergeant Robert L Polvado is a prisoner of war of the German Government. The adjutant general noted the report via International Red Cross and promised a letter from the provost marshal general. She also received the Air Medal awarded in England January 20.

Lt Wayne T Hardwick reported missing in action after a raid over Germany on May 19. A 1940 Sidney High School graduate he earned his silver wings at Selman Field in 1943 and married Juanita Peacock the same day. He landed in England February 26 1944 and had Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. His mother Mrs K T Mitchell of Sipe Springs listed siblings and his wife with her Monroe Louisiana family.

William N. Lloyd Staff Sergeant is reported missing in action following a raid over Germany on May 8 or 10 while based in England. He is the son of Mr and Mrs William H Lloyd of Blanket Route 2 and a Comanche High School graduate. A War Department telegram conveys the regrets and promises prompt notification if more details come in.

Victory Garden Show To Be Held Here Next Week

The 4 H Club Girls Victory Garden show will be in the Comanche County Courthouse basement on Saturday June 17, with the Comanche Garden Club flower show and home crafts exhibit. Women and girls are invited to enter arrangements or handmade articles and demonstrations will be provided by Miss Edwina Dearley. Prizes funded by the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club range from 1 to 8 dollars plus subscriptions, with special awards for best displays and vegetable arrangements. Exhibits must be brought to the courthouse basement by 10 a m Saturday.

Lt Col Moore Lands In Africa

Lt Col Ike Moore son of Mrs C M Moore of Comanche recently landed in North Africa with other officers. A Comanche High School and Texas A M graduate, he has served about three years rising from first lieutenant to lieutenant colonel and holds a key position with Army personnel. He is reportedly in line for promotion to full colonel.

Man Dies After Shooting Outside Fritz Dance Hall

Eugene Richard Wilson 23 was shot just after midnight Tuesday outside Fritz Dance Hall on the Co mande Priddy road Mills County. Three or four bullets struck him as a pistol was used. Fritz Dinklage, owner, is jailed in Goldthwaite pending charges. Funeral set for Thursday at Comanche Funeral Home with Oakwood Cemetery burial. Wilson born June 7 1921 and survived by parents and multiple siblings. He recently received a medical discharge from the Army and worked as a cafe cook.

Scouts To Collect Scrap Paper On June 16 17

Mohon Promoted to First Lieutenant on Corsica

John Travis Mohon son of John A Mohon of Comanche has been promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant in Corsica. He earlier rose from staff sergeant to second lieutenant about seven months ago in North Africa. He is now stationed on the Corsican island off Italy where Napoleon was born.

Sergeant Luksovsky Back From Italy on Furlough

Sergeant Charlie Luksovsky holder of the Silver Star for gallantry in action is back in the United States on furlough visiting his wife Mamie Jo Brooks Comanche Rt 1 and his parents Mr and Mrs Frank Luksovsky in Moulton. He earned the Silver Star from General Mark Clark in Italy on Christmas Day for showing exceptional gallantry when he took command after his captain was killed and directed his company to victory over the Germans. He will visit here and in Moulton while awaiting reassignment.
