Blythe Joslin Capture PAR Sudden Death Playoff

Rick Blythe and Don Joslin of Waxahachie won a six hole sudden death playoff to capture the Championship Flight at PAR Country Club Nineth Annual Memorial Day Tournament. They earned a set of Ben Hogan irons after posting a 200 total, a course record 16 under par for three days.

Holiday Scraps and Pieces in Comanche Area Memorial Weekend

Sheriff W G Garman notes about six calls from family disputes with one woman showing a shiner after a Tuesday incident. Chief Charles Anders reports usual weekend calls and five or more vehicle collision investigations with no serious injuries. DPS notes heavy traffic but orderly flow. Wildlife officers report many boaters acted safely. All departments report routine offenses and public cooperation.

Bomb Threat Sweeps Courthouse Prompt Search

A caller warned of a bomb at the courthouse last Thursday night at 8 10 pm. Police, joined by the Sheriff, conducted a thorough office by office search but found no device. This was the fourth such threat in years, with past warnings targeting churches and a high school.

Lake Eanes Swimming Pool Opens This Thursday

City Secretary John Beaty announces the Lake Eanes Pool will open Thursday June 2 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Thomas Manning is the pool manager with Vicky Froh as lifeguard. Admission is 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children 12 and under. The pool closes Wednesday and on Sundays operates 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. on other weekdays it opens at 2 p.m. and stays open until 9 p.m.

Holiday Visitors Fill Lake Proctor Parks Over Weekend

Army Corps of Engineers Manager Garvin Hendon reports about 2 200 paid campers and many more visitors at Lake Proctor over Memorial Day weekend. Copperas Creek Park saw overflow diverting 200 units to Promontory Park while roughly 1 500 vehicles used park roads. No major incidents occurred and the weekend boosted the lakeside area’s reputation.

Producers to register in Comanche County for beef program vote

Eligible beef producers must register June 6 to 16 at county ASCS offices to vote in the producer referendum on the Beef Research and Information program. If approved, a Beef Board of up to 68 members will be chosen and a first meeting could occur in late 1977 with full program rollout in 1978.
