Comanche County Jail Closure Prompts Court Action

Comanche County Commissioners Court meets as jail remains closed with no arrests or prisoners. Sheriff Boykin closed the facility after terminating a jailer. prisoners were to be moved to Brown County while a reopening planis considered. Court approves temporary reopening by July 31 with a promise of August 1 reopening if needed.

Gustine SIS Seeks Bids for Elementary Building and Cafeteria

Gustine Independent School District invites bids for a new elementary classroom and cafeteria building to house six classrooms and the dining facility. The district recently approved a $130,000 bond issue for the project and other improvements. Bids will be accepted by Gustine School Board until 8:00 p.m. Thursday August 14.

Comanche County Girls Win in District 8 4-H Dress Revue

Charla Clark and Judy Johnson, both 4-H members from Comanche County, won top honors at the District 8 4-H Dress Revue at Tarleton State College. Charla, from Hasse 4-H Club, earned 1st alternate for the State 4-H Dress Revue after winning in the Senior Division. Judy, from De Leon 4-H Club, earned blue ribbon in the Junior Division. They were judged on garments plus poise grooming modeling and 4-H clothing records among entrants from eighteen counties.

Comanche Air Show to Feature WWII Era Headliners

The Sixth Annual Comanche Air Show at Comanche County City Airport on August 16 will showcase WW II era headliners from the Confederate Air Force including Colonels Lefty Gardner Joe Henderson and Ed Messick. Navy Jets from NAS Dallas led by Commander Jerry Beene will join the event along with helicopter demos from Fort Hood 6th Calvary and a T 33 static display from Com Beaur. Two area residents Tom Brookhaven and Stephen Dueboay will be sworn in during enlistment ceremonies.

Hearing Planned on Comanche County Pay Proposal

A public hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. Monday August 11 in the County Courtroom on a proposed 15 percent cost of living pay raise for elected Comanche County officials and most county employees. If approved, salaries rise January 1 1976 with Sheriff and County Attorney increases to 9879.31 and 9096.55 respectively.
