Lt. and Mrs. Gene Arthur announce the birth of a son Rex Glen Friday July 9 at the Bergstrom Air Base Hospital Austin. He weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and both mother and baby are doing well. Robert L. Brandt former superintendent of Gustine public schools is appointed head of Moran Public Schools in Shackleford County. He holds a master degree from Hardin-Simmons University Abilene and taught in Gustine 1950 to 1954 serving as superintendent 1952 to 1954. He and his wife plan to move with their daughter Rosema Brandt.
In five years Comanche County added 48.9 miles of roads as Texas reported its largest road-building era. The Highway Department notes 14,926.1 miles added statewide at a cost of 575,158,577.32 with maintenance and construction totaling 1,758,213.96 in the county. Governor Shivers calls the figures proof that Texas motorists enjoy top engineering roads.
