Turkish soil conservation student visits Comanche County

Muhlis Geyik a 26 year old forest engineer from Civril Turkey arrived in Comanche Monday to study soil conservation under John Simpson head of the local Soil Conservation Service. He will study in Texas at Stephen F Austin State College and Oklahoma A&M College before returning home September 3 1955. He has two children and is married.

Learn to Swim Program Starts at Lake Pool

Second Polio Shots Due July 28 In Comanche County

The second round of polio vaccinations will be given next Thursday July 28 starting at 1 PM in the Comanche Ward School Lunchroom. Dr E E Blackwood says 70 percent of the May first round doses were ordered for this session and the inoculations are free for first and second graders on a first come basis. Parents from Sidney Proctor Van Dyke and Comanche schools are urged to bring their children. the Comanche West Ward PTA and School Nurse Kathleen Eads will assist. The vaccine is supplied by Eli Lilly Company and will be used for Texas in this round.

Good Rains In County Bring Smiles To Farmers

Rainfall totaling about 2.02 inches across Comanche County over Friday through Tuesday boosted spirits among farmers ranchmen and local business people. Comanche city measured 1.90 1.60 1.96 inches on Saturday Sunday and Tuesday with heavier totals in southeast sectors reaching up to five inches in Swan Hill Beattie Pettit Van Dyke and nearby areas recorded four inches while parts of Logan Gap received two inches and east Newburg saw about four and a half inches.

Gustine pastor Rev L L Wilson dies after heart attack

Rev. L L Wilson 55 pastor of Gustine Baptist Church died unexpectedly Wednesday morning July 20 after a heart attack while retrieving mail at Gustine Post Office. He was taken to Stephenville Hospital where he died en route. He leaves a wife and daughter Mrs Alba L Bowen Jr and funeral plans are pending. The daughter and son in law are in France with the husband in the U S Army.

East Side Baptist Revival Planned

Our Summer Revival will begin at the East Side Baptist Church July 22 and run through July 31. Bro. Jimmie Dobbs of Weatherford will be the guest speaker, remembered as former pastor of the Gustine Church. Services start 10:30 a.m. daily and 8:00 p.m. each night. Everyone is invited to attend.
