Chief Prepares To Gather Election Returns Saturday

The Comanche Chief reports an election night party with a large bulletin board on the courthouse square to post primary results as soon as they are tallied. Workmen set up the board, a loud speaker will broadcast, and County Chairman R L Lane will run headquarters at The Chief office.

School transfers should be made by parents before August

Trustees and patrons are urged to cooperate in getting students transferred to the high school of their choice before August 1. Parents, not the County Board, should arrange transfers for students from Fairview, Briar Grove, Cross Roads, Mercer Gap, Mercer Creek, Harmony, Van Dyke, Brysonville, and other districts to Comanche High School where their home district lacks certain grades. County Superintendent Bramilette will explain further.

Twenty years ago Charles Barton of Lamkin married Miss Zena West at the Baptist parsonage. Aubrey Findley wed Miss Virginia Hill at Fort Worth last Sunday. Ex Governor James E Ferguson spoke to 2500 to 3000 Friday, introduced by Hilton Burks. Accounts list deposits at Comanche National and local banks, plus two marriage licenses. Agnes Graham returns from Korea to spend summer with her parents. Local judges speak in support of Hobby and Callaway campaigns amid a fierce gubernatorial race. Lieutenant Quentin Roosevelt has been killed in action. Col Roosevelt releases a statement praising his son’s service.

Successful Revival Concluded At South Leon Baptist Church

A revival at South Leon Baptist Church concluded successfully Sunday under pastor Rev T N Carter. The event added 19 new members with eleven by baptism. Rev A Edwin Wilson of Comanche Baptist Church and Joe Strickland of Fort Worth led the singing.

Funeral services for 74 year old W T Humphries longtime Sipe Springs resident were held July 6 at Sipe Springs with Rev Williams officiating. Fire Destroys Roberts House in North Comanche

A late Saturday fire destroyed the W. W. Roberts residence near Leverett Little in North Comanche. Origin unknown, the building and contents valued at about 3000 with 1000 on the structure and 500 on furniture, insured. Firefighters couldn’t save the house due to the absence of a local fire plug.

Dudley Brothers Pitcher Melvin Bear Breaks Leg

Melvin Bear, Dudley Brothers pitcher, broke the small bone above his ankle sliding into second in a Friday softball game against Fagan. The leg was set in plaster, and Bear is expected to be ready for football by October. He has starred as a lineman and may move to quarterback this season for the Comanche Indians.

Old Settlers Reunion Draws Record Crowd at Lake Eanes Park

Contract Set For Energy Test Well

D. J. McDaniel of Comanche assembled a large block of acreage in the Energy community for an Ellenberger test and has contracted it to A. T. Campbell of Oklahoma. Campbell expects to begin drilling soon as he finishes a well in North Texas and moves the rig and tools to the Comanche County block.

Mrs. T. C. Johnson of Imola Buried in July

Mrs. T. C. Johnson of Imola died in a Brownwood hospital on July 7. Interment followed at Amnity Cemetery. She is survived by her husband two daughters Mrs. C. E. Vaughan of Denver Colorado and Mrs. Olin Gill of Ennis a son Robert Johnson of May and a brother Scott McWilliamson of McCamey.

Donkey Softball Games Set for Comanche Saturday Night

Donkey softball returns to Comanche Saturday night July 23 for the second game in a two game series. Ira Clemons invites all to enjoy a comedy filled event with a loud speaker providing precinct county and state election returns. The game starts promptly at eight at the local softball park.

Firemen Sponsor Softball Tuesday Benefit Night

The Comanche Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor softball games at the local ball park Tuesday night July 26. Ira Clemons says a double header is planned for the Firemen's Benefit. The City League game Fagan vs Dudleys will be played and the firemen will stage a Mother Hubbard game with all players wearing dresses.

Absentee Voting Totals in County Reach 134

County election records show 98 in person and 44 mailed absentee ballots cast totaling 134. County Clerk Hollis Burton notes turnout was lighter than the last election two years ago as mailed ballots mostly returned.

Christian Church Building Improvements In Comanche

Workmen began this week reshingling the Central Christian Church building and plan painting and other improvements if possible. In Comanche also under way this week is repainting the south side of the square building occupied by Stanton’s Taller Shop.
