De Leon Man Uncovers 93 Year Old Prison Letters From Texas
E C Insall of De Leon presents more than twenty letters penned nearly a century ago by Texas prisoners in a Mexican jail. The notes recount the Miers Expedition survivors and others captured at San Antonio and El Paso, describing hard chains, guard punishments, meager rations, and hopes for prisoner exchange amid Santa Anna’s campaign. The letters reveal dire conditions, improvised escapes, and fierce Texas resolve.
