Comanche and surrounding area prepare for the 20th Annual Rodeo with sales and advertisements in this edition. Local merchants promote bargains on shoes and summer fabrics while police and hospital news note events around the July 4th holiday and hospital reopens.

Angus Dickson Jr a Comanche County agent, chosen as Texas representative to attend the American Institute of Cooperation at UC Berkeley August 2 to 14. Martha Brace of Jefferson County will join as Home Demonstration Agent. Sarah Lou McCullough of Newbury 4-H will represent District 8. Dickson returns from a three week Youth Development course in Colorado with 35 states and 15 foreign countries represented.
The Comanche Roping Club announces a mounted quadrille will perform Friday and Saturday nights during the 20th Annual Amateur Rodeo. Members are from the Comanche Junior Roping Club directed by Joe Waring, featuring Deanna Durham, Jean Mims, Judy Morris, and others, proudly composed entirely of Comanche County residents.
In the Babe Ruth division of the Comanche Baseball League the Durham Braves remain 4-1 while Blanket slips to 3-0. Saints and Toppers tie 5-2 in Little League, with action July 14 to 19 including Dudley vs Raiders and Toppers vs Dudleys.
More than 150 top area cowhands are expected as Comanche prepares for the Twentieth Annual Amateur Rodeo July 21 to 23. Promoters Lloyd and Sandy Woodley will direct the three night show sponsored by the Comanche Roping Club. Parade opens festivities July 21 at 6 00 PM with Lions Club Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce backing the event. The parade aims for 50 to 60 floats and 150 to 200 mounted riders. Events include bareback bronc steer wrestling wild cow milking calf roping head and heel steer roping Brahma bull riding and girls barrel racing. Queen will be chosen from parade entrants.
The Co manche Chief, in cooperation with the Co manche Roping Club, will publish its rodeo edition one day early on Wednesday instead of Thursday. It will cover the 20th Annual Show along with the late Thursday parade and circulate countywide on opening day. News writers and advertisers urged to submit copies promptly.
Regular city council session at 7 p.m. with full attendance approves sending John Carpenter and Joe Waring to the Firemen Training School at A&M. Motion to buy gasoline monthly from wholesalers and to let Mayor Hall use city gasoline for city business. Park Committee authorized to buy playground equipment for Lake Eanes Park. Bills and per diem approved. Parking meter fund totals for 1959 60 and June 1960 listed as $10,034.51 and $1,064.57 respectively.
William F. Curry of Comanche was named a Distinguished Student in the School of Arts and Sciences at Texas A and M for spring 1960. He registered for 15+ hours, earned a 2.25 GPA or better, and had no grade below C. Mr and Mrs Castle Ellis returned from a weekend trip to Arkansas.
Gustine FFA receives notice from E C Weekly Texas Association of the FFA that Gustine is named a Superior Chapter. Chapter President Gayland Carson will accept the award at the State FFA Convention in Houston July 20. Ten members travel to Houston for the 38th State Convention led by Carson with advisor Weldon Kirby and a group of Gustine FFA officers and members.
Gail Anthony head Drum Major for Comanche High School Band attends a drum major and twirlers school at TCU in Fort Worth. She is a CHS senior and previous year's head drum major. The program runs through Friday July 15.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Houck and their daughters plan an extended vacation trip to California this weekend. The notice highlights family travel plans and the upcoming departure.
A Brownwood trio Jim Davis his wife Leona and companion Lee Wilkinson were arrested Saturday July 9 for shop lifting. Eldon Oden Hugginbotham Merchandising Manager suspected the group and alerted the sheriff's office Deputy Lon Fox made the arrest. They appeared before Judge Dwight Brightman who sentenced Jim Davis to 30 days in jail while Leona Davis and Lee Wilkinson received 15 days each.
More than 300 attended the Stag Creek picnic grounds Tuesday as the Stag Creek Community Club honored Comanche civic clubs and visitors. A big meal and a local hillbilly band highlighted the program, praising Comanche for aiding Stag Creek in a state contest.
