Man Killed by Mule in White Gap Community

D Foreman died on Thursday June 27 after entangling his foot in rope while hitching a team. A mule jerked him down causing the neck to be broken as he was crushed under a wagon wheel. His wife witnessed the scene and aid could not aid. The mule belonged to another party.

Bullet Strikes Hazel Rieger on East Side

Hazel Rieger suffered a gunshot wound from a 22 caliber rifle while walking toward Mrs. Ermine Powell’s home near Red Gun lot. Doctors say the bullet grazed under the skin and likely saved her life by not piercing the abdomen. The shooter is unknown and no motive or suspect is identified.

Child Douses Lye Burns Saved By Vinegar

Last Friday evening Mr and Mrs Lionel F Slider awoke to their sixteen month old daughter Geraldine crying. They found she had tried to eat lye left by a washer in the wash house. They poured vinegar over her mouth and tongue, likely saving her life. The child had poured out lye particles and picked one up to eat, then spat it out due to burning.

Death of J. O. Quinn Comanche Resident After Foot Surgery

J. O. Quinn of Comanche died last Sunday at a Fort Worth sanitarium after a foot infection worsened during an extended illness. Born April 30 1861 he was 57. Survived by his wife Elmina and four of thirteen children, with burial at Indian Creek Cemetery.

Red Cross Turns Out Surgical Dressings in Counties

Comanche Chapter of the Red Cross shipped 19,000 surgical dressings last week, the work of county women and girls. The Proctor Auxiliary sent 2,000, a splendid showing for Proctor and for Comanche county, a source of local pride.

Comanche Cavalry to Be Mustered Into Service

The Comanche Troop of Cavalry, recruiting for some time, will be mustered into service on Saturday July 6 at nine o clock. First Lieutenant J B Chilton Jr returned from Dallas after conference with General McDill and a plan to merge the Comanche unit with Brownwood to form a Cavalry Machine Gun Troop with Paul V Harrell of Brownwood as Captain and Chilton as First Lieutenant. The Comanche group has 99 men and 85 percent are beyond draft age, a higher share than state average, a point of pride noted by organizers.
