New Year's Baby of 1956 Likely to Have Better Start
Texas Health Department statisticians say the 1956 newborn will have more favorable birth odds than his 1940 counterpart. Nine in ten births occur in hospitals now, with 29,821 home births in 1954 and physicians attending 220,274 births. Improvements in prenatal care and a new Physician's Birth Memorandum aim to simplify record keeping.
