Leon River Flood Control hearing draws 500 delegates
About 500 delegates from Coryell, Hamilton, Erath, Comanche and Eastland counties attended a Leon River flood control hearing before Army Engineers at the Comanche courthouse. Col. H R Norman praised the meeting as the best he had attended. Dignitaries and reporters observed no objections to the project with local farmers testifying to river induced land damage.

Caraway Heifer Wins at Chicago International Livestock Show
Golden Oak Graceful, a junior Shorthorn yearling shown by C. M. Caraway & Sons of Comyn and De Leon, captured first at the Chicago International Livestock Show. The Caraways entered ten Shorthorns, winning 6 places with one first, four thirds, one fourth, and one fifth. the family has competed in eleven shows including Kansas City Royal. Funeral services were held December 31 for Mrs. N. E. Graham, 74, in De Leon with interment at De Leon Cemetery. Galveston District engineers and staff attended.

Comanche County Starts March of Dimes Drive
The first Comanche County meeting to wage a campaign against infantile paralysis was held in the County Courtroom on January 6 with Karl Shock as chairman. The drive runs January 15 to 31. 50 percent of local funds stay countyward while the rest goes to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Oscar Hill chairs the county drive for Comanche city. Bas il O Connor notes the 12 million dollar national effort this year.
