Jim Dudley Appointed New County Attorney in Comanche County
James H. Dudley age 29 becomes County Attorney for Comanche County effective January 2 succeeding C. C Hampton who resigned to enter private practice. Dudley son of Gail and Gail Dudley of Comanche graduated CHS 1957 with BA and LLB from the University of Texas admitted to the bar 1964. He returns to Comanche after 1964 civic work and ranch duties and holds posts with Greater Comanche United Fund St Matthew's Episcopal Church and local legal and agricultural groups.

Farmers who earned at least two thirds of their 1968 gross income from farming must file a declaration of estimated tax for 1968 by January 15. If the tax is paid in full by February 17, 1969, estimated tax filing is not required. Send forms to the Southwest Service Center in Austin or obtain the Farmers Tax Guide by mail from Dallas IRS Supply or local county agent.

Postmaster General Marvin Watson announced a contract award to Mr and Mrs Lester Allen of San Antonio to build and lease a new Sidney post office. The five year lease with a 15 year renewal option covers 1320 dollars annual rent. The project aims to improve mail handling while the building remains privately owned and taxed locally. Construction is slated to complete by May 1 1969.

Local Option Election Fails In Comanche County
Comanche County Justice of the Peace Precinct No 1 voters rejected a proposal to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages for off premises consumption in the Monday December 30 local option election. Unofficial tally shows 486 for and 989 against with eleven boxes reporting and absentees. Only Hasse box favored the proposition. others voted dry. Turnout slightly over half of eligible voters.

Comanche County farm and ranch income reached 27.5 million in 1968, up 8.48 million from 1967, led by peanuts with 10.37 million on 55 112 acres yielding 2.881 million bushels at 2.60 a bushel. Crops total rose to 12.67 million, livestock to 14.40 million, and government payments rose to 440,946.

Social Security Tax Rate Increase For 1969
The social security tax rate for employees rises by 40 cents per $100 of wages starting January 1969. The 1967 amendments raised benefits and set at least a 13 percent increase for monthly retirement survivors and disability payments effective February 1968.
