ASCS Office Manager Oral D. Johnston reports 455 farmers completed harvesting on 17,813.8 acres yielding 16,376,752 pounds, about 919 pounds per acre and near $100 per acre gross. The 1965 Comanche County peanut allotment rises to 58,405.9 acres, up 1,600 acres from 1964.
The Southern Loan Association plans a new savings and loan branch in Comanche on the east side of Main Street near Bax-Plate. It will offer 414 percent interest on savings and provide typical loan services. Renovations begin immediately to house the branch, with Simmons, Chandler and Cobb managing.
Wm S Bill McCay and Leon Dr Sledge former Comanche County deputy sheriffs will join the Taylor County sheriff department as George Maxwell assumes the office. McCay becomes chief deputy in the criminal investigative division and Sledge heads the civil department.

Comanche High School Indians coached by Russel Berry advance to the Howard Payne Basketball Tournament final after defeating Millsap 57-46 and Santo 36-34. The championship game is set for 6 50 p m Wednesday at Howard Payne with Brady as the opponent. Hugh Fletcher led scoring in the Santo game with 20 points.
Three newly elected Comanche County officials join two returning officeholders in an 8:30 a.m. ceremony Friday January 1. Sheriff Gaston C Boykin and Commissioner Homer Miller plus Claud Jones take first terms. John Beaty Jr and C C Hampton renew terms. Existing veterans Belve Bean and W R Elliott leave posts. Ottis Fields was sworn Nov 9 as Justice of the Peace. Deputy and radio dispatcher hires announced. plans for a full-time jailer are noted. Bob Barton and wife visited from Houston during Christmas.

Advertisers promote a January White Sale at Ben Frankin, 35-cent pants at Chief Dry Cleaners, new color TVs at Higginbothams, Heaters at Higginbothams, Dearborn radios, pre inventory clearance at Gibbs, Silf Skin and Pantie Girdles at Hareliks, drug savings at Service Drug Store, and hot 1965 car values from Re Arthur. Also news of STAALEY ALLSUP’s ongoing shop closure due to accident and Mrs. Bob Allen winning a TV set from Thrif-Tee Food Mart.
The 30th Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show lists 236 market and 95 breeding animals, totaling 231 entries, a new county record. Gayle McCullough calls a January 4 meeting of officials, superintendents and instructors at 7:30 PM in the Courthouse to plan.
