Comanche Growth Tied to Rail, Barbed Wire and Stone Bank
The history recalls De Leon securing the railroad in 1868 and Comanche's rise after the line arrived. Barbed wire arrived in 1881, shaping pastures and fencing around Round Mountain. Comanche built a courthouse in 1891 with blue sandstone quarried near the Leon River, and the Comanche National Bank followed in 1892. The bank building remains well preserved.

The husband of Comancheen Perkins dies suddenly in New York after playing basketball. Native of Mason City Iowa he was visiting Long Island with his wife and two young sons Gary Jr and two years old. He died on their fifth wedding anniversary while in Manhattan for business. Funeral services planned in four days.
