Study Finds Smaller Cows Lift Calves With Less Feed
A Texas A M University study at the Livestock and Forage Research Center tests cattle size versus calf gain. Early results show smaller cows, including Charolais and Hereford, produced heavier calves on less feed, with milk yield correlating to calf size more than cow body size. The project spans ten years with ongoing feedlot comparison and dry-period maintenance.

Farming and Ranching Costs Due 67 Rise
Floyd M. Key reports from Texas A&M economist John McHaney that U S farm production expenses rose 8 percent in 1966 to about 3 billion dollars and will increase again in 1967 though at a slower rate. Higher costs for inputs such as feeder livestock feed fertilizer and pesticides and greater use of hired services drive the trend with tax interest and insurance expected to climb.
