District Highway Engineer Leo Ehlinger outlined a post war farm to market highway system for Comanche County. Rights of way must be 60 feet and donated with priority on mail and school bus routes. Proposed routes include De Leon to Sipe Springs 16 miles and Comanche to Beattie 5 miles among others.

Mayor outlines city improvements for Comanche
The city completed a six inch sewer main extension from Grand Avenue to Highland Avenue serving about thirty families at an estimated cost of $1000 funded from the general fund. Plans include surveys south of Indian Creek for more sewers and a northwestern water main and fire hydrant project to reduce fire insurance on 47 houses. Wright Avenue will be opened to Highway 16 with a caliche base, potentially a state highway cutoff, funded from the general fund without new debt.

Nancy Jo Wilkerson daughter of Mr and Mrs J C Wilkerson Comanche married Lt Robert M Barton Tuesday February 13 in North Post Chapel Army Air Base Walla Walla Washington. The ceremony conducted by Chaplain William E Bishop followed a double ring rite with Lt E H Goodwin best man and Mrs Goodwin matron of honor. Lt H P Barton of West Virginia a non relative gave bride away. After the ceremony a reception was held for the couple by Lt and Mrs Goodwin. Both attended Southwestern University and the University of Texas with Nancy earning a journalism degree in 1944 and Barton a 1943 Southwestern graduate and B A. The couple plans to live at 1760 Isantes Avenue Walla Walla until April before overseas duty.

Pfc Amon W Taber of Comanche has returned from seven months in the European Theater aboard the U S Hospital Ship Dogwood. He is hospitalized at Stark General Hospital in Charleston South Carolina awaiting transfer for definite treatment. He formerly lived in Pettit and is a Purple Heart recipient for wounds in France. his brother Artie Taber is also in the service overseas.

American Hero Ensign Huett Returns From War service
Ensign Huett, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Will H Huett of Comanche, has served three years in the Merchant Marines. He saw action in the Pacific Atlantic and Mediterranean and recently completed a trip to Belgium. He and his wife spent a week visiting relatives before returning to the East Coast. He has two brothers in service Flight Officer John Hil bert Huett in the Air Corps and Ensign Howard Huett in Naval Air Corps. He was aided before enlisting by Clarence Huett at the Service Drug Store.

Doss the 780 pound Short horn calf owned by Bill Lane of Comanche sold at the Houston Fat Stock Show for 50 cents a pound. Lane won 25 dollars at the local show, 22.50 at Brownwood, and 30 at Houston with total prize money likely surpassing 100 dollars plus other winnings from Shorthorn groups. Lane, a Comanche FFA member, estimates profit around 275 dollars and plans another champion for next show.
