Wim J Parks, Comanche County REA manager, was named chairman of the Comanche County Centennial. Officers include Roy Thomas, Bob Gressett, Joe Sartor, Nancy Armstrong, Mrs Elton Terrill, and Bill Clemons. Centennial events run July 22 to 26 with religious ceremonies opening and community planning underway.
Mrs. J. N. Isham announces the opening of Isham's Flowers at 400 East Central Comanche this weekend. The new shop offers a full line of flowers for all occasions with corsages for funerals and weddings and emphasizes an eight year floral background. The store is four blocks east of the square in a modern frame building and the opening may slip into early next week if shipments are delayed.
A measurement of ten and seven eighths inches is noted. The value equals 10.875 inches.
A head-on crash between a Texas Highway patrol car and a 1940 Ford near here injures two men shortly before noon. Willie Cotton of the Hasse Community suffers chest and multiple cuts while Patrolman Ralph W. from Stephen ville has a concussion and facial bruises. Cotton is pinned in his wrecked car, and the patrol car is moved to the right lane.
The Comanche Indians defeated the Brady Bulldogs 59 to 54 in the last 7 AA basketball game of the season securing a fourth place tie with Brady in the final standings. The Indians won the 7 AA B crown with an 8 2 record after the setback for Brady. Final district results place Coleman and Ballinger tied for first, Winters third, Comanche and Brady tied for fourth, and Lake View in the cellar. Smallwood to Preach at Gustine Tabernacle Baptists Church Saturday.
Mrs. Wollie L. Jackson 71 of Comanche dies at home after a sudden illness. Funeral Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Henry M. Chambers and Rev. W. G. Self officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by husband Yollie L. Jackson, son Robert Jackson, two grandchildren, two brothers, and other relatives.
Raymond F. McGowan former Dallas stable operator pleaded guilty to murder without malice in the July 1955 slaying of his wife Darby and was sentenced to five years to be served after a prior five-year term. District Attorney Howell Cobb led the prosecution in Hamilton 52nd District Court.
