Budget crisis prompts calls to curb non defense spending
The piece argues for tight caps on federal outlays and substantial cuts, especially in non defense programs. It cites defense at 74.4 billion for 1968 with 5 percent savings, and urges a 10 to 15 billion starting cut labeled essential to fight inflation. It links spending to the Vietnam war and national debt. It notes Mills advocates Congress setting spending ceilings and debt limits, with a war-time economy context. It also references personal notices of births and military moves in Salt Lake City and Idaho.
